Eschenbach is a municipality in the Hochdorf constituency in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .
geography
The community is located 9 km north of Lucerne on a threshold between the Reuss Valley and the Seetal . In addition to the village, numerous groups of houses and farmsteads belong to the community. The neighboring communities are Ballwil , Buchrain , Emmen , Hochdorf , Inwil , Rain and Rothenburg .

The population grew rapidly in the first half of the 19th century. After that it stagnated until 1900 with around 1,200 inhabitants. There was constant, slow growth until the middle of the 20th century. Since then it has increased significantly, not least because of the proximity to the city of Lucerne and the tax rate (“tax haven”). The growth from 1970 to 2004 was + 60.1%.
languages
The population speaks a highly Alemannic dialect. In the last census in 2000, 94.91% gave German, 1.52% Albanian and 0.81% Italian as their main / everyday language.
Religions - denominations
In the past the entire population consisted of Roman Catholics . In 2000 there were 80.55% Roman Catholic, 8.60% Evangelical Reformed and 0.98% Orthodox Christians. There are also 3.57% non-denominational and 2.73% Muslim. The Muslims are mostly Albanians and Bosniaks, the Orthodox Serbs and Montenegrins.
Origin - nationality
At the end of 2014, of the 3,594 inhabitants, 3,229 were Swiss and 365 (= 10.2%) were foreigners. The population consisted of 89.8% Swiss citizens . At the end of 2014, the foreign residents came from Germany (33.7%), Serbia including Kosovo (16.4%), Italy (12.6%), Portugal (9.3%) and Spain (1.9%). 19.5% came from the rest of Europe and 6.6% were of non-European origin.
history
First reliable mention in the goods toboggan of the Fraumünster Abbey in Zurich under the name "Eskinpah" in the year 924. Previous mentions cannot be proven with certainty. Until 1309 the community was a fiefdom of the Barons von Eschenbach . Since Walter IV of this family participated in the murder of King Albrecht , his property was taken over by the Habsburgs and belonged to their office in Rothenburg until 1385. The municipality this year fell to the expanding city of Lucerne , where she was part of until 1798 Landvogtei remained Rothenburg. Then it belonged to the Hochdorf district until 1803, from then on to the then newly created Hochdorf Office .

traffic
Eschenbach has its own train station on the Lucerne - Lenzburg railway line (popularly known as the Seetalbahn ) and is therefore well integrated into the public transport network. In addition, a commuter express bus runs to the train station in Rotkreuz (ZG) from Monday to Friday .
Like the hamlet of Blatten , the village is on the main Lucerne-Lenzburg road. The district of Bründlen is on the main road Eschenbach-Sempach, the hamlet Mettlen on the road Emmen-Inwil, the hamlet Höndlen on the road Eschenbach-Inwil and the two hamlets Öggeringen and Herrendingen off the main roads.
The closest motorway connections are Buchrain on the A14 in 4 km, Gisikon on the A14 in 7 km and Emmen-Süd on the A2 in 8 km away.
