Seetal
The Seetal is a north-south running valley between Emmen (north of the city of Lucerne ) and Lenzburg in Switzerland . It is divided into the Aargau Seetal and the Lucerne Seetal and is characterized by two lakes, the Hallwilersee and the Baldeggersee . The valley is drained by the Aabach . In the east it is limited by the ridge of the Lindenberg .
geography
Like the neighboring valleys, the Wynental in the west and the Reuss valley (Freiamt) in the east, the Seetal belongs to the south-east to north-west running valleys of the central plateau , which were created by the Ice Age Reuss and Linth glaciers . Characteristic of this are the many ridges, also called drumlins , in the area of the Baldeggersee , such as the Herrenberg near Ermensee or the Kaiserstuhl near Gelfingen . Gravel deposits such as in Ballwil and Eschenbach or Seon are characteristic of a landscape shaped by glaciers like the Seetal.
The frame of the valley is formed by two chains of hills about 8 km apart (as the crow flies from hill to hill): in the west the Erlose and Homberg with its hill chain, in the east the Lindenberg and the heights of the Rietenberg chain . In the south at Eschenbach and Ballwil there is a watershed that separates the Reuss valley from the Seetal, about 30 km north of this the Seetal ends with the foothills of the western and eastern hill chains in the Lower Aare valley .
Communities
The Aargau Seetal has the following 11 communities: Beinwil am See , Birrwil , Boniswil , Dürrenäsch , Egliswil , Fahrwangen , Hallwil , Leutwil , Meisterschwanden , Seon and Seengen .
The Lucerne Seetal includes the following 10 communities: Aesch , Altwis , Ballwil , Ermensee , Eschenbach , Hitzkirch (with Gelfingen , Hämikon , Mosen , Müswangen , Retschwil and Sulz ), Hochdorf , Hohenrain (with Lieli ), Römerswil (with Herlisberg) and Schongau .
Viticulture
The Seetal is the oldest and largest wine-growing region in the canton of Lucerne. After viticulture almost came to a standstill at the beginning of the 20th century, the cultivation area has been increasing continuously since the 1960s and is now 22 hectares. The Canton of Lucerne promoted the replanting of the historic slopes below Heidegg Castle, where vines were planted again in 1952. The vineyards are on the western slopes of the Lindenberg. It has recently become known that the region also has an old autochthonous grape variety, the so-called Hitzkircher (a natural cross between Bondola x Completer). Lucerne wine has been protected by the controlled designation of origin AOC since 2005.
In the Aargauer Seetal, the vineyards are mainly located on the south-west facing slope at the lower end of Lake Hallwil.
Seetalbahn
Around the Tallänge runs between Lenzburg and Lucerne the Seetalbahn that the route network of the S-Bahn Lucerne belongs. Some villages have their own train station (or more and more stops), the others are served by bus routes. Since the train mostly runs right next to the road, there were often accidents up until the 1990s. In the meantime, many unguarded level crossings are or are closed or secured with barriers and alternating flashing signals.
