The rotating house is a building in Heuchelheim an der Lahn ( Hesse ) that was built in 2009 and rotates towards the sun. It was developed as a further development of the first rotating house built in 1997 by the architect and master carpenter Heinrich Rinn as a rotating solar house of the 2nd generation. It was designed by the architects Christopher and Jürgen Rinn. Executing companies were exclusively local companies in order to take into account the energy optimization through short distances already during construction. The house can be viewed as a model house by appointment.

architecture

The forerunner of the rotating house built in 1997

The basic idea was to build an affordable house that produces more energy than it consumes for heating and cooling ( plus energy house ).

The floor plan is round on the outside with recesses for exposure, inside can be freely designed except for four statically required posts.

The sunny side of the facade has a very high proportion of glass of around 75% and the sun is tracked by rotating the entire building (active energy gain). The back has few openings and is decorated with arches on the plaster. The revolving house was planned as a passive house , has a wooden frame construction as the primary construction and is insulated with cellulose . It is heated mainly by direct solar radiation; If this is not enough, the underfloor heating can be operated with a heat pump heating system that uses an 80 m deep geothermal probe as a heat source. In addition, tube collectors support the heating.

In order to keep the temperature in the house low in summer without using energy for mechanical cooling, the window side of the house is turned out of the sun.

The air is exchanged through the ventilation system with a heat exchanger for heat recovery in winter and for cooling in summer.

A photovoltaic system with thin-film modules on the roof surface is used to generate electricity . The roof is covered with zinc standing seams. The house can be turned with both a 180 watt electric motor and an exercise bike .

The house has two full floors, an attic and a cellar. The living space is 241 m², the usable area 54 m². The average diameter of the house is 10.70 m, the diameter of the perimeter on the ground floor is 12.70 m, and the height from the top of the site to the top of the roof is 9.10 m.
