Interior of the church

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Catholic parish church in the south of the city of Halle (Saale) . It was built from 1929 to 1930 by Wilhelm Ulrich as a central building. The church was added to the old cloistered buildings of the nearby Franciscan monastery in Halle .

The floor plan is hexagonal . In its form, however, with the alternation of short and long outer walls, it appears like an isosceles triangle, the corners of which are cut. The resulting triangular-looking spatial shape establishes the relationship to the Holy Trinity . The church has no tower. A light arcade with a bell house is placed above the center of the room . The chancel is incorporated as a separate Raumwabe in one of the side walls and, in turn, has a hexagonal shape which is open at church and is continued here through columns at the vertices. The pillars support a hexagonal canopy in the shape of a prism. Behind and at the same time above the canopy there is a large horizontal band of light in the outer wall, which cannot be seen from the church interior. When the sun falls, the chancel is illuminated indirectly.

The relationship to the nearby water tower south , which was built a little earlier and which clearly towers above the church and apparently takes on the role of a campanile , is interesting in terms of urban planning .

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity is one of the few architecturally original sacred buildings that were built in Central Germany during the period of experimental church construction after the First World War.

The parish of the Holy Trinity today forms the parish of St. Franziskus with the parishes of St. Marien, Halle (Brauhausstraße), St. Albanus, Schkeuditz and St. Marien, Gröbers. It is looked after by the Franciscans resident at the Trinity Church .
