The Trinity Church (Polish Kościół Świętej Trójcy ) or Bonifraterkirche (Polish Kościół Bonifratrów ) in Krakow is a Catholic church at ul. Krakowska 48 in the Kazimierz district south of Kraków's Old Town .

history

Bishop Jan Małachowski brought the Trinitarian Order from Lemberg to Krakow in 1688 , where they initially found shelter in the Dominican Church, which is also consecrated to the Trinity. They started building the Trinity Church in Kazimierz in 1741. The facade was created in the late Baroque style by Francesco Placidi . The frescoes go back to Józef Piltz . The church also has paintings by Tadeusz Kuntze . The church was finally consecrated in 1758 by Bishop Franciszek Podkański . After the partition of Poland, the Habsburgs lifted the Trinitarian order in Krakow in 1796. During the time of the Duchy of Warsaw , Frederick August I gave the church to the Brothers of Mercy of St. John of God , who are called Bonifrater in Poland. The Bonifrater had been in Krakow since 1609, but their Ursula Church in Old Town was demolished in the same year.
