Three-gabled house in Ditzingen

The Dreigiebelhaus is a historical building ensemble in Ditzingen . It is located on the west side of the Laien and has housed the Ditzinger City Library since 1993. The house is a cultural monument according to § 2 DSchG BW .

Building history

The three-gabled house consists of two two-storey, gable-free stilted residential stalls with decorative framework (built in 1715 and 1763), which were connected by a gate passage (1767) also crowned with gables . The two houses have five or four window axes on the gable side on the first floor and a round arched cellar door each on the ground floor. In the background of the courtyard there used to be a barn and shed (1807).

In 1983 the court ensemble, which had been in the possession of a Ditzingen farming family for 250 years, was acquired by the city for 668,000 DM. After the completion of the new town hall and the renovation of the old town hall and school house, the local council decided in April 1991 to preserve the historical building fabric and to convert it into a city library according to plans by the architect Professor Zabel. The municipal gallery Am Laien was set up in the former stables. A modern library was built on the site of the former barn. The total costs for the renovation and new construction amounted to approx. 10 million DM. The city library was inaugurated on December 11, 1993 by Lord Mayor Alfred Fögen .
