Alfred Fögen (born March 20, 1936 in Trier ) is a former German local politician . From 1981 to 1999 he was Lord Mayor of the large district town of Ditzingen .

Life

In the spring of 1958, Fögen passed the examination for the higher administrative service and from April 1958 to February 1962 was a government inspector at the high school authority in North Württemberg. In the mayoral election of 1961, at the age of only 25, he was elected mayor of the Hirschlanden community to succeed Emil Koch (took up office on February 19, 1962) and was re-elected for twelve years on December 7, 1969. Because of the dissolution of the municipality in the course of the municipal reorganization of Baden-Württemberg , it only remained in office until 1975. During this time, Hirschlanden grew from a rural village of 1200 souls to a large community with over 5000 inhabitants. Important projects were the construction of the school center (now Theodor-Heuglin-Schule) together with the neighboring community of Schöckingen (1966), the redevelopment of the town center, the industrial settlement in the "Lange Äcker" industrial area and, last but not least, the designation of new building areas. During his tenure, the high-rise buildings in the “Leiter II und Bergstrasse” building area, which still shape the silhouette of the community today, were built. With the unification of Hirschlanden with the city of Ditzingen in 1975 Fögen left office. In the candidacy for mayor of the city of Ditzingen, he was only barely defeated by the later incumbent Alois Lang (51.43 percent) with 47.80 percent of the vote . He was a local councilor and district councilor and was active in the real estate industry.

When Lang was dismissed from office in 1980 as a result of a real estate affair, Fögen reapplied for the office of Lord Mayor. In the first ballot he reached 16.8 percent, in the second 18.9 percent of the vote and came in third place behind the SPD candidate Volker Baehr and the CDU local association chairman Günther Oettinger . Because of Oettinger's candidacy, Fögen had previously resigned from the CDU. When a new election became necessary after Baehr's suicide in December 1981, Fögen ran again and was elected Lord Mayor of the large district town of Ditzingen against his former party friend Günther Oettinger. He did not stand for election in the 1999 mayor election. On July 15, 1999, he was removed from office. He was succeeded by Michael Makurath .

During Alfred Fögens Ditzinger tenure, among other things, the construction of the New Town Hall (1989) and the redesign of the town center with the Laien square as the center.
