Volker Baehr (born December 20, 1943 in Breslau ; † September 7, 1981 with Widdern ) was a German town planner and local politician . In 1981 he was the administrative administrator for the office of mayor of the large district town of Ditzingen .

Life

Baehr was born in Breslau and grew up in Stuttgart . There he passed the Abitur in 1964 at a humanistic grammar school. After completing his military service, which he finished as a reserve officer (last lieutenant in the reserve), he studied economics with a focus on public finances in Tübingen and Nuremberg. In 1970 he passed the exam as a graduate economist. In 1971 he became coordinator at the Institute for Environmental Planning in Ulm . Since 1972 he has been a lecturer for urban economics, local and regional planning at the University of Stuttgart . At the same time, he had been a partner in a Stuttgart office for municipal advice since 1974.

Baehr had been a member of the SPD since 1974. In 1975 he ran for the office of Lord Mayor in Bietigheim-Bissingen , but was defeated by Manfred List . After the then Mayor of Ditzingen Alois Lang was dismissed from office as a result of a real estate affair in 1980 , Baehr was nominated as an applicant for the successor by the SPD local association. He prevailed on November 20, 1980 in the second ballot with 42.29% of the votes against the local CDU chairman Günther Oettinger , Alfred Fögen , the "Remstal rebel" Helmut Palmer and the lawyer Dieter Schnabel. The objection of an unsuccessful applicant who was far behind prevented the appointment. On May 6, 1981, Baehr was therefore initially appointed administrative administrator with the title of mayor. After the regional council and administrative court had rejected the objection, the official inauguration was scheduled for September 28, 1981. Before this date, Baehr committed suicide on September 7, 1981. The following election was won by the previously defeated non-party candidate Alfred Fögen.
