Dromineer ( Irish  : Drom Inbhir ) is a small village with 118 inhabitants (2006) in the north of County Tipperary in the Republic of Ireland . It is on the banks of Lough Derg on the River Shannon . The place has a tower house from the 11th century, a harbor and other facilities. Dromineer is a well-known destination for boat tourists. The name Dromineer comes from the Irish "Drom Inbhir" and means the back or ford of the river.

Today, Dromineer is a thriving place, particularly popular with residents of nearby towns ( Nenagh ) or neighboring counties such as Clare and Limerick . Dromineer offers restaurants and pubs ("The Dromineer Bay" and "The Whiskey Still"), accommodations (such as "the Dromineer Bay Hotel" and "The Dromineer Hostel") and a children's playground.

Lough Derg Lifeboat is the RNLI's third lifeboat station and the first in the interior of the Republic of Ireland .

Sports

  • Kildangan GAA is the local Gaelic Athletic Association club.
  • Fishing is a popular recreational activity on the lake and also on the Nenagh River.
  • Dromineer is also known for having the third oldest yacht club in the world.
