The Warrego Highway is a trunk road in the south of the Australian state of Queensland . It runs over 720 km between Charleville in the southwest of the state and Ipswich , a western suburb of the capital Brisbane . It is part of the Australian highway system and an important part of the connection between Brisbane and Darwin . At the same time, it is an important link between the rural regions in southwest Queensland and the metropolitan area around the capital Brisbane.

The Warrego Highway begins in Charleville, a small town in southwest Queensland. This lies on the Warrego River , from which the highway got its name. From Charleville, the road runs east. After about 90 km the Landsborough Highway (NA2) from Longreach and Cloncurry in the north joins the Warrego Highway.

The Warrego Highway then continues for 180 km east to Roma , a city in the middle of large natural gas deposits that are used to supply the country with energy. In Roma the Carnarvon Highway (A55) from St. George meets the Warrego Highway. After another 140 km the small town of Miles is reached. The Leichhardt Highway (A5), which runs in north-south direction, crosses here . The Warrego Highway continues eastward until it reaches Dalby . In Dalby, the Bunya Highway (S49), which runs from Kingaroy to Dalby, meets from the northeast and the Moonie Highway (S49), which runs from St George to Dalby, from the southwest .

The Warrego Highway then runs 85 km southeast to Toowoomba , Australia's second largest city, which is not on the coast but inland. The New England Highway (A3), which runs in north-south direction, crosses there . Coming from Goondiwindi in the southwest, the Gore Highway (A39) also meets the Warrego Highway in Toowoomba.

The last 100 km of its way the Warrego Highway runs east again until it reaches Ipswich. Shortly before the city, the Brisbane Valley Highway (R17) meets the Warrego Highway from the north, and shortly after Ipswich the Cunningham Highway (N15) from Warwick in the southwest. The Ipswich Motorway (M2) is created by combining the two highways .

The highest point on the highway is 665 m, the lowest is 4 m.
