Warwick is a city of 13,900 people in the south of the Australian state of Queensland . It is located 160 kilometers southwest of Brisbane and 85 kilometers south of Toowoomba on the Condamine River . The city is the administrative seat of the Administrative Area (LGA) Southern Downs Region . Both the New England Highway and the Cunningham Highway run through the city.

In the green belt of Warwick, on the banks of the Condamine River, there is a sculpture of Tiddalik , the mystical frog from the Aboriginal dream times who drank all the water and thereby caused a drought.

The first Europeans to settle in the area were brothers Patrick and George Leslie. Their farm, called Canning Downs , with a blacksmith and shop, became an important center for farmers in the region. In 1847 the government of New South Wales , Queensland was not established until 1859, commissioned Patrick Leslie to choose a location for a town to be called Cannington . The name Warwick was later agreed. With the connection to the railroad in 1871, the industry in Warwick began to boom, within a few years a brewery , a flour mill and a brick factory were built.
