Coordinates: 28 ° 13 ′  S , 152 ° 0 ′  E The Southern Downs Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 7108 km² and has about 35,000 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in the extreme southeast of the state on the border with New South Wales about 130 km southwest of the capital Brisbane .

The largest city and administrative seat of the LGA is Warwick with about 13,900 inhabitants. history

Today's Southern Downs Region was created in 2008 from the two Shires Stanthorpe and Warwick.

administration

The Southern Downs Regional Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor) and eight other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
