Le Lonzac

Le Lonzac ( Lo Lonzac in Occitan ) is a French municipality with 805 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants call themselves Lonzacois (es).

geography

The community is located in the Massif Central on the southwestern edge of the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Nature Park Millevaches en Limousin .

Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 25 kilometers south, Égletons about 25 kilometers southeast and Uzerche about 15 kilometers southwest. The municipality is crossed by the Madrange river to the east and by the Ruisseau de Boulou to the north . The Vézère , into which the two join , runs along the north-western municipal boundary.

Neighboring municipalities of Le Lonzac are Affieux in the north, Madranges in the east, Beaumont in the southeast, Chamboulive in the south, Eyburie in the west and Peyrissac in the northwest.

history

A church dedicated to St. Martin of Tours has been documented since the 10th century . The name of the community refers to the Latin avellana (nux avellana - hazelnut), origin was the country estate Olonziacus, later it became Olonzac and finally Le Lonzac.
