Égletons ( From Gletons in Occitan ) is a French town with 4298 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine and capital of canton Égletons . The inhabitants call themselves Égletonnais (es).
geography
The city is located in the Massif Central in the headwaters of the Montane at the foot of the Monédières and the Plateau de Millevaches and is surrounded by extensive forests and fields. Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 30 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 28 kilometers northeast.
Neighboring municipalities of Égletons are Péret-Bel-Air in the north, Soudeilles in the northeast, Darnets in the east, Moustier-Ventadour in the southeast, Rosiers-d'Égletons in the southwest and south and Saint-Yrieix-le-Déjalat in the northwest.

The Autoroute A89 , accessible from Égletons via exit 22, passes the city on the northern edge in the direction from northeast to southwest.

history
This settlement, which has become more and more important since Gaulish - Roman times, became the headquarters of the Lords of Ventadour from 1059. The etymology of the name Égletons is uncertain, some see its origin in a man's name while others see its origin in medieval Latin . Nevertheless, under the protection of the mighty fortress of the Ventadour, the place developed into a prosperous city in the Middle Ages.
