The Best of Dark Horse 1976-1989 is the second compilation album of George Harrison after the separation of the Beatles . At the same time, including the two instrumental albums from the 1960s, the studio albums, the first compilation album and the live album, it is Harrison's 14th album. It was released on October 17, 1989 in the US and on October 23, 1989 in the UK .

History of origin

From the last compilation album The Best of George Harrison had been 13 years to the time of the publication of Best of Dark Horse 1976-1989 . In contrast to the first best of , George Harrison put the songs together himself, dispensing with the single releases This Song , Faster , Teardrops , I Really Love You and This Is Love , instead selecting album titles.

Since the 1980s, it was not uncommon for best-of or greatest hits compilation albums to use songs that had not yet been released. Poor Little Girl , Cockamamie Blues and Cheer Down were heretofore new or unreleased songs, with Cheer Down being part of the soundtrack for Lethal Weapon II , which was released in August 1989.

Cover design

The design of the cover comes from Wherefore Art? , the photo by Terry O'Neill . The CD comes with a 16-page booklet containing the lyrics of the album.
