The Apple Years 1968-75 -

The Apple Years 1968–75 is George Harrison's second CD box . It was released on September 19, 2014 in Germany (Great Britain: September 22, 2014, USA: September 23, 2014).

The first CD box The Dark Horse Years 1976-1992 was released in 2004.

History of origin

The box The Apple Years 1968-75 includes all six re-released studio albums in CD format by George Harrison, which were released on the Beatles label Apple Records . All albums were remastered by Paul Hicks, Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen in the Lurssen Mastering Studios and contain, except for the album Electronic Sound , bonus tracks and are also available separately.

The CDs are in fold-out cardboard sleeves and are based on the covers of the original LP editions. The double album All Things Must Pass also contains a reduced poster of the original edition. Each of the other CDs comes with a 16-page illustrated booklet containing information from Kevin Howlett about the album and the lyrics. The CDs are in inner covers, which are based on the original inner sleeves of the respective vinyl album. The design is by Darren Evans. Due to the bonus titles, the box contains all of George Harrison's studio recordings that were officially released between 1968 and 1975.

It does not include the live album The Concert for Bangla Desh or the mono version of the Wonderwall Music album . The box is also missing songs from the album Early Takes: Volume 1 , some of which were recorded up to 1975. The song Isn't It a Pity (demo version) , which was available as a bonus download track with the album Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison , is also not on the box.

According to the CD booklet for the album Extra Texture (Read All About It) , the bonus track This Guitar (Can't Keep from Crying) (Platinum Weird Version) was recorded with David A. Stewart in 1992, and Ringo over ten years later Starr (drums), Dhani Harrison (guitar) and Kara DioGuardi (backing vocals) musically added. It was therefore recorded outside of the period 1968 to 1975. It is similar with the song My Sweet Lord (2000), which was recorded in 2000 and first released as a bonus track on the album All Things Must Pass in January 2001.

The song Bangla Desh , which is a bonus track on the album Living in the Material World , as well as the bonus songs from the albums Dark Horse and Extra Texture (Read All About It) were remixed by Paul Hicks.

The box also contains a DVD , inserted in a 46-page hardcover book in CD format. In the companion book, Dhani Harrison is listed as executive producer. He mentions in the introduction that his father said to him in 2000 during the remaster work on the album All Things Must Pass : “One day you're gonna have to finish all this” ( German : 'One day you will do it all have to finish '). According to his statement, this has now happened with the publication of the box The Apple Years 1968-75 .
