The Traveling Wilburys Collection is a compilation album of the supergroup Traveling Wilburys , consisting of George Harrison († 2001), Jeff Lynne , Tom Petty , Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison († 1988), who contributed to the first album. It was released on June 17, 2007 ( United States : June 11, 2007).
History of origin
The group's two albums (Wilburys Vol. 1 and Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3) have not been produced since the mid-1990s. On June 11, 1999, George Harrison gave an interview in which he said he had regained the rights to his Dark Horse and Warner Brothers releases, which were released between 1976 and 1992, including those of the Traveling Wilburys. He also announced that a new release with bonus pieces was planned. However, George Harrison passed away in November 2001, so publication was delayed until June 2007.
The two albums were remastered by Steve Hall with additional tracks in a double CD pack with an additional DVD under the title The Traveling Wilburys Collection on Rhino Records . The bonus tracks were musically revised in 2007 by Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison . The double album was offered in four versions: as a standard edition (two CDs, a DVD, a 16-page booklet ), as a limited deluxe edition (linen-bound, two CDs, a DVD, a 40-page booklet, postcards, Certificate of Authenticity), as a vinyl edition (two vinyl records, additional 12 ″ vinyl record with bonus pieces, album-sized book, postcards / posters), as well as a digital download (all pieces on the two CDs including bonus pieces, videos and interactive booklet). With the additional long-playing record of the vinyl version, three versions of songs were released that were not released as bonus tracks on the two CDs: Handle With Care (Extended Version) , End of the Line (Extended Version) and Not Alone Anymore (Remix) .
In January 2008, the album was awarded gold in the USA for 500,000 copies sold.
Cover design
The album cover was designed by Drew Lorimer and Olivia Harrison . The CD comes with a 16-page illustrated booklet that includes an introduction by Mo Ostin, fictional stories about the Traveling Wilburys, information about the album and instructions on how to dance the Wilbury Twist.
