Dhani Harrison (born August 1, 1978 in Windsor , United Kingdom ) is a British musician. He is the son of George and Olivia Harrison . Harrison made his debut as a professional musician while recording his father's last album and completed it with the help of Jeff Lynne after his father's death in November 2001. In 2006 Dhani Harrison formed his own band thenewno2 .

Life

School and job

Dhani Harrison grew up with his parents in Friar Park, a 120-room property in the village of Henley-on-Thames . He attended Badgemore Primary School in Henley-on-Thames and then moved to Dolphin School near Twyford. He completed his school education at Shiplake College near Henley-on-Thames. At the American Brown University in Providence ( Rhode Iceland Harrison acquired in 2001 as part of its study of) Fine Art with a degree in physics and industrial design . This was followed by a job with the Formula 1 team McLaren , where he worked in the aerodynamics area .

Musical career

As a child, Dhani Harrison wanted to be a drummer, but when Ringo Starr was once a guest at George Harrison's and Dhani Harrison played something on the drums, he dropped that thought and learned to play the guitar. In March 1988, George Harrison recorded the song Ride Rajbun with his nine-year-old son Dhani Harrison and Ravi Shankar , which was released in October 1992 on the compilation album The Bunbury Tails . Already at the age of 13 Dhani Harrison was playing guitar with his father during his Japan tour in 1991 for the song Roll Over Beethoven on the concert stage of the Tokyo Dome . When George Harrison made his first and last solo live performance in Europe on April 6, 1992 at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the benefit of the Natural Law Party, a small political party in Great Britain, his son was also there. In January 2001 the remastered George Harrison album All Things Must Pass was released . One of the bonus tracks, I Live for You , comes from the original recording sessions and was musically supplemented and revised by George and Dhani Harrison in 2000, the song My Sweet Lord [2000] was completely re-recorded. In 2001, Dhani Harrison co-wrote with his father shortly before his death the song Horse to the Water , eventually on the album Small World Big Band by Jools Holland appeared and is therefore the last recording of George Harrison. George Harrison passed away on November 29, 2001. Dhani Harrison completed his late father's last studio album, Brainwashed , with Jeff Lynne , with Dhani Harrison being listed as a musician and co-producer.

The Concert for George took place on November 29, 2002 on the occasion of the first anniversary of George Harrison's death in London's Royal Albert Hall . Dhani Harrison also performed alongside friends and musical companions. On June 12, 2007, the album Make Some Noise - The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur was released, on which Jakob Dylan interpreted the Lennon song Gimme Some Truth with Harrison . In June 2007 the remastered albums of the Traveling Wilburys continued to be released , with the musically supplemented bonus pieces, alongside Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, who is performed under the pseudonym Ayrton Wilbury - the name refers to the fatally injured racing driver Ayrton Senna - also plays .

TheNewNo2 - Coachella Festival 2009

In 2006, Dhani Harrison and Oli Hecks founded the duo Thenewno2 , their first EP entitled EP EP001 was released that same year. On August 11, 2008, their debut album You Are Here was released , which they recorded in George Harrison's studio and produced there themselves.

On September 9, 2009, the music video game Rockband: The Beatles was released, which has been programmed for the PlayStation 3 , Wii and Xbox 360 consoles . The software was developed by Harmonix Music Systems with the support of Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr and Dhani Harrison.

Fistful of Mercy 2010

In 2010 the music group Fistful of Mercy was founded, it consists of the three musicians Ben Harper , Joseph Arthur and Dhani Harrison. Jim Keltner played drums as a studio musician. The album As I Call You Down was released in October of the same year on the Hot Records label founded by George Harrison . It reached number 2 on the folk album charts and number 50 on the official sales charts . In 2011 the EP EP002 followed the Thenewno2 . In July 2012 the second album of Thenewno2 was released with the title thefearofmissingout , which was mainly recorded by Dhani Harrison, Oli Hecks was only involved in two songs as drummer. The soundtrack Beautiful Creatures followed in March 2013 , again under the artist name Thenewno2 , for which Harrison had written the title with Paul Hicks and Jonathan Sadoff. Paul Hicks had already played on the two previous albums by Thenewno2 . Oli Hecks was no longer involved in the album. Also in 2013, the Beatles track For You Blue, written by George Harrison, was recorded by Dhani Harrison and released in September.

Dhani Harrison is listed as executive producer on the September 2014 CD box set The Apple Years 1968-75 . Another soundtrack, Learning to Drive , was released by Dhani Harrison and Paul Hicks in August 2015. In February 2016, the double CD George Fest was released , a live tribute album for George Harrison, in which Dhani Harrison again contributed to eight songs. The concert took place on September 28, 2014 at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles . Dhani Harrison played guitar on the James McCartney album The Blackberry Train (May 2016), entitled Too Hard . The soundtrack album for the feature film Seattle Road was released in July 2016 , recorded by Dhani Harrison and Paul Hicks. In October 2017, Dhani Harrison's album In /// Parallel was released, the first album that he released under his name only.

Dhani Harrison and his band were the opening act for Jeff Lynne's ELO on the North America tour from June 20 to August 1, 2019. On July 12, 2019, the Harrison single Motorways (Erase It) was released .

In March 2020, Dhani Harrison released his version of the Beatles song The Inner Light , which is part of supporting the George Harrison charity The Material World Foundation to fight the COVID-19 virus.

Private

In June 2012, Dhani Harrison married the former model Sólveig Káradóttir. In November 2016, the press reported the couple broke up.
