Gone Troppo ( english be [accordingly], Stupid ') is the eighth solo studio album of George Harrison after the separation of the Beatles . At the same time, including the two instrumental albums from the 1960s, the studio albums, the compilation album and the live album, it is Harrison's twelfth album. It was released on November 5, 1982 in the UK and on November 8, 1982 in the US .

History of origin

George Harrison published the following year after his last album Somewhere in England with Gone Troppo be commercially erfolglosestes studio album. Neither Harrison nor his record company Warner Brothers were willing to do promotion work for the album, which was certainly one of the reasons for the album's poor sales.

The album title Gone Troppo is a colloquial Australian language and means "go crazy". In addition to Ray Cooper, who was on the last album, Phil McDonald, a former sound engineer for the Beatles, was there as a co-producer . The dates of the recordings are not documented and are dated to 1982. According to a source, the recordings were made between May 5 and August 27, 1982, only the songs Circles and Dream Away were recorded beforehand.

Only That's the Way It Goes, Magical One and Circles reflect the interpreter's philosophical views. The latter title is an unreleased Beatles song that Harrison re-recorded. The original version was recorded in the house of George Harrison (Kinfauns) in May 1968 while preparing for the album The Beatles . As on the albums Thirty Three & 1/3 and Somewhere in England , George Harrison recorded a cover version of I Really Love You , the original was released by the stereos in 1961. Greece is a predominantly instrumental song that describes the way to Greece in the lyrics . The song Gone Troppo deals with the convenience of staying in the Caribbean .

Dream Away is a song from the soundtrack to the feature film Time Bandits , produced by George Harrison's company HandMade Films . A soundtrack album was not released. The remaining titles Wake Up My Love and Unknown Delight are love songs for God (Krishna). Baby Don't Run Away , on the other hand, is a love story on a worldly level.

Cover design

The cover was designed by "Legs" Larry Smith ( Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band ) and does not reveal the artist or the title of the album at first glance. On the inner cover of the record cover or on the fold-out CD booklet, there is a detailed description of how cement is made. The photos are from Terry O'Neill .
