action

Eleven-year-old Kevin, who is interested in history, dreams one night of a knight jumping out of his closet with his horse. The following night he waits again and goes to bed with a Polaroid camera and a flashlight. That night no knight comes, but six dwarfs, whom he joins. The dwarves have stolen a map from the Supreme Being , which shows all the remaining holes in the universe. Through these holes it is possible to travel to different ages. The dwarves want to take advantage of this to enrich themselves.

The first time hole leads the dwarves, who go by the names Randall, Wally, Fidgit, Strutter, Og and Vermin, and Kevin into the battle of Castiglione . Napoleon , who likes it when little people beat each other on stage, appoints the dwarfs to be generals after a theater performance. He is promptly robbed. The second trip takes the group, which Kevin has since joined, to the Middle Ages, where they meet Robin Hood . Pursued by the Supreme Being who wants his card back, Kevin flees into a time hole that leads him to ancient Greece . There he meets the king Agamemnon and saves his life in a duel with a Minotaur . In return, Agamemnon takes the boy in as his son.

A short time later, however, the dwarves reappear and take Kevin with them on the Titanic . After this sinks, the dwarves decide to travel to the Age of Legends . There they meet a grouchy ogre with a backache, a bald giant and, when the dwarfs with Kevin after a long walk through a wasteland reach the fortress of darkness, evil personified, who also wants to take possession of the map.

They are lured into a trap by this and locked in a cage. After they were able to free themselves from this, they try to wrest the card from the evil again, but this turns out to be impossible. Even with tools from different ages - knights, archers, cowboys, tanks and spaceships - they do not succeed in defeating evil.

When everything seems in vain, the Supreme Being appears, in the form of an elderly gentleman in a suit with a tie, who puts an end to the spook and explains that everything was just a test to test his creation and the evil it entails deliver. On the orders of the Supreme Being, who appears as an honorable manager, the humble hurrying dwarves clean up the rubble caused by the fighting in the fortress of darkness. Then the dwarfs disappear with the Supreme Being, leaving the boy Kevin behind. After this was fogged by a cloud of evil smoke, Kevin finally wakes up in his bed at home and, back in reality, is rescued from his family's house on fire by the fire department. In front of the burning house, his parents are killed after touching a piece of evil, namely in the form of a smoking lump of carbon that was forgotten during the cleanup. In addition, the bearded King Agamemnon appears as a firefighter, winking at Kevin and driving away in a fire brigade's vehicle with a flashing blue light.

Reviews

“A fantastic adventure film, set somewhere between a parody and a tricky dream fairy tale, spiced with a lot of British humor. An elaborate and effective conversation, despite some formal inconsistencies, amusing and sometimes even profound conversation. The complex plot and the parodic subtleties should only fully open up to the adult viewer. "
