She then had roles in films by Woody Allen , Stanley Kubrick , Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton .

In Germany Duvall is best known for the role of Wendy in Stanley Kubrick's film Shining (1980). In the early 1980s, Duvall began producing television programs for children, mostly fairy tales, in which she also acted herself.

Private life

From 1970 to 1974 Duvall was married to the artist Bernard Sampson. Duvall met singer Paul Simon while filming Woody Allen's Annie Hall . The relationship lasted two years and ended when Duvall introduced Simon to her friend, actress Carrie Fisher , and Simon subsequently started a new relationship with Fisher. The relationship with Paul Simon was followed by the engagement to the actor Stanley Wilson. Nothing was known about a marriage.

In 2016, Duvall, who had withdrawn from the public eye since her last film in 2002, granted a rare interview to American television presenter and psychologist Phil McGraw . In this she made her mental illness public. McGraw was subsequently criticized for presenting Duvall to the public in its troubled state.
