George Harrison is the sixth solo studio album of George Harrison after the separation of the Beatles . At the same time, including the two instrumental albums from the 1960s, the studio albums, the compilation album and the live album, it is Harrison's tenth album. It was released on February 23, 1979 in the UK and on February 20, 1979 in the US .

History of origin

For the first time, George Harrison took more time to complete the follow-up album to Thirty Three & 1/3 . In 1977 Harrison only recorded the song Mo , a tribute to the then president of the Warner Bros. record company. The song was only released in 1994 on a six-CD promotional compilation entitled Mo's Songs . The recordings for the album George Harrison took place between March and October 1978 with the co-producer Russ Titelmann.

During this time, on August 1, 1978, the son of George Harrison and Olivia Arias , Dhani Harrison was born. The parents' marriage followed on September 2nd.

Harrison began composing Love Comes to Everyone in the fall of 1977 . The text, which Harrison described as "optimistic", was written in 1978 during a stay in Hawaii . Blow Away is a song with a positive mood that Harrison composed during a phase when he had largely retired from the music business and often attended Formula 1 races. Inspired by a conversation with Niki Lauda , Harrison set out to write a song that his racing friends might like. Soft-Hearted Hana , Dark Sweet Lady , Your Love Is Forever and Soft Touch are love songs. Not Guilty is a Beatles song that was not released until October 1996 ( Anthology 3 ) and that Harrison recorded again. The original version was completed during the recording of the Beatles album The Beatles . Here Comes the Moon is about the moonlight, while If You Believe , like several tracks on Living in the Material World , explains George Harrison's religious and philosophical views. The song Faster deals with Formula 1 racing and was inspired by Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda. The title of the song comes from Stewart's autobiography Faster !: A Racer's Diary , which appeared in 1972. Harrison dedicated the song to the racing driver Ronnie Peterson, who died in 1978, among others .

In May 1979 the album was awarded gold in the USA for 500,000 copies sold.
