Maussac is a French municipality with 439 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants call themselves Maussacois (es).
geography
The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and therefore also in the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park .
Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 40 kilometers southwest, Égletons about 10 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 15 kilometers northeast.
Neighboring municipalities of Maussac are Meymac in the north, Combressol in the east, Darnets in the south, Soudeilles in the southwest and Davignac in the west.
The Luzège , a tributary of the Dordogne , runs through the municipality.

The place is about ten kilometers northeast of exit 22 of the A89 autoroute .
history
Between the 8th and 6th centuries BC, the Celtic Lemovics invaded the region and dominated the area until it was conquered by the Romans in the 1st century. Maussac also goes back to a Gallo-Roman foundation. The name originated from Mauriciacum, where the suffix acum is Celtic and denotes the homestead. Mauriciacum then became Maursac (1252) and finally Maussac.

Attractions
- The Saint Christophe Church , a religious building from the 12th and 19th centuries. The building has been classified as a Monument historique since 1974 .
- The Maussac coal mines are unique in the Corrèze. The mines were exploited from 1809 to 1943.
