Saint-Angel is a French municipality with 709 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants call themselves Saint-Angélois (es).
geography
The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and therefore also in the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park .
Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 55 kilometers southwest, Égletons about 20 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 9 kilometers northeast.
Neighboring communities of Saint-Angel are Alleyrat in the north, Chaveroche in the northeast, Ussel and Mestes in the east, Valiergues in the southeast, Palisse in the south, Combressol in the west and Meymac in the west.

The place is about three kilometers southwest of exit 23 of the A89 autoroute .
history
The village got its name from a monastery founded there in the 8th century , which was dedicated to the Archangel Michael . The area was occupied by England during the Hundred Years War . The end of the occupation was marked by the fire in the monastery in 1375.
In 1793 the communes of Saint-Fréjoux-le-Mineur and Saint-Angel merged.

- The fortified church and monastery of Saint-Michel-des-Anges , a remarkable building complex, originally from the 12th century, rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. The building has been classified as a Monument historique since 1840 .
