Millevaches ( Miuvachas in Occitan ) is a French municipality with 81 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants call themselves Millevachois (es).

geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and therefore also in the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park .

Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 70 kilometers southwest, Égletons about 30 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 25 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring municipalities of Millevaches are Saint-Setiers in the north, Sornac in the east, Saint-Sulpice-les-Bois in the south-east, Chavanac in the south, Saint-Merd-les-Oussines in the west and Peyrelevade in the north-west.

The place is about two kilometers north of the upper reaches of the Vézère , beyond that the Vienne rises in the northern part of the municipality. Here is also the watershed between the tributaries of the Loire and those of the Dordogne .

The place is about 25 kilometers northwest of exit 23 of the A89 autoroute .

history

The place, so named today, was given to the Uzerche Abbey in 1048 by the Viscount de Aubusson . The place was mentioned for the first time in 1145 in the copial book of this abbey under the name Millevacas .
