Saint-Merd-les-Oussines ( Sent Merd in Occitan ) is a French municipality with 129 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
geography
The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and therefore also in the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Nature Park . Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 60 kilometers southwest, Égletons about 30 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 30 kilometers southeast.
The place is on the right bank of the upper reaches of the Vézère , a right tributary of the Dordogne . The municipality is also traversed by the Ars , a left tributary of the Vézère.
Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Merd-les-Oussines are Peyrelevade in the north, Millevaches and Chavanac in the east, Meymac in the southeast, Saint-Germain-Lavolps in the south and Pérols-sur-Vézère in the southwest, Bugeat in the west and Tarnac in the northwest.

history
The name Saint-Merd-les-Oussines developed from " Sancti Medardi de Chabanes " in 1315 via Saint Merd les Aussines en Bas-Limousin to the current spelling. The name refers to St. Medardus of Noyon . Oussine comes from Occitan and means uncultivated land, a field that is left fallow.

Description : The coat of arms is quartered , heraldic top right and bottom left, a green deciduous tree edged with red teeth in gold , top left and bottom right a gold bar on the dividing line and a silver dove in red . In the blue heart shield there is a floating red sloping bar and three golden tail wheels.

- The Gallic-Roman ruins of Cars , a remarkable collection of building remains from the 2nd century AD. The building ensemble has been classified as a monument historique since 1935 .
