Champagnac-la-Prune center

Champagnac-la-Prune is a French municipality with 163 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The inhabitants call themselves Champagnacois (es).

geography

The community is located in the Massif Central and is surrounded by extensive forests. The prefecture of the Tulle department is located about 25 kilometers northwest and Égletons 32 kilometers slightly northeast.

Neighboring municipalities of Champagnac-la-Prune are Gumond in the north, La Roche-Canillac in the northeast, Saint-Martin-la-Méanne in the east, Argentat-sur-Dordogne with Saint-Bazile-de-la-Roche in the southeast, and Saint-Bonnet -Elvert in the south, Saint-Sylvain in the southwest and Saint-Paul in the west.

etymology

First the place was called Champagnac-près Laroche , then Champagnac-lès-Roche and finally Champagnac-la-Pauvre . The community was later given its current name.

history

The parish, whose patron saint St. Peter belonged to the diocese of Limoges . There were two castles in town: the Château de la Gautherie was renovated in the 19th century. The Château de la Roche Lafont in the hamlet of Grafeuille was the seat of the d'Aigrefeuille family until the end of the 14th century . The Gauthier family ruled the other castle until it died out in the 14th century. Later it was owned by the Chaunac , Soudeilles and Beaufort families . In 1843 the hamlets of Le Chassang , Le Theil , Graffeuille and Les Vergnes were incorporated.
