The municipality is located in the Massif Central , northeast of the Hautefage reservoir (French: Barrage de Hautefage ) and is traversed by the Maronne . Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 40 kilometers northwest and Argentat 10 kilometers west and Aurillac im Cantal about 42 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Geniez-ô-Merle are Saint-Privat in the north, Saint-Cirgues-la-Loutre in the northeast, Cros-de-Montvert in the southeast, Goulles and Saint-Bonnet-les-Tours-de-Merle in the south, Sexcles in the southwest, Hautefage in the west and Servières-le-Château in the northwest.
