Salon-la-Tour ( Salom in Occitan ) is a French municipality with 658 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Correze in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is a member of the Pays d'Uzerche municipal association .

geography

The community lies on the edge of the Massif Central and, along with Masseret, is the gateway to the Corrèze. The upper reaches of the Forges river , a right tributary of the Bradascou , runs through the municipality.

Tulle , the prefecture of the department, is about 35 kilometers southeast, Brive-la-Gaillarde about 45 kilometers south and Uzerche about 10 kilometers southeast.

The place is about halfway between exits 43 and 44 of the Autoroute A20 .

The neighboring communities of Salon-la-Tour are Lamongerie in the north, Condat-sur-Ganaveix in the east, Saint-Ybard in the south, Benayes in the west and Masseret in the north-west.

  • Tower , remnants of a fortress from the 11th century, built by the Viscounts of Limoges and destroyed by Richard the Lionheart , classified as a monument historique since 1992 .
  • Château du Pin , a 15th century castle, burned down in 1550, rebuilt between the 16th and 19th centuries, burnt down again in 1916, now restored.
  • Château de la Grènerie , a castle built in 1450 by the Lesbolières family, then sold to the Beaupoil de St-Aulaire family, a Breton family who completed the construction and later expanded it, classified as a monument historique since 1975 . The castle with a three hectare park and pond can be visited.
