history
The name Condat-sur-Ganaveix comes from Condate in the Celtic language and denotes the confluence of two watercourses. This name indicates a very long history of settlement. However, Condat was first mentioned in the Uzerche copy book between 1073 and 1086. The municipality developed between the Ruisseau des Forges and the Ganaveix. Connection to the city of Uzerche was maintained via ridge paths. This very rural community has undergone frequent changes of rulers over the centuries and on the eve of the revolution was still without a road or bridge. Therefore, it survived this turbulent time almost unscathed and had reached its highest population in 1846 with 1803 inhabitants.
