The Maranoa River is a river in the southwest of the Australian state of Queensland . It rises near Warrong in the south of Carnarvon National Park , flows through Mitchell and flows into Lake Kajarabie and thus into the Balonne River at St. George .

The main tributary of the Maranoa River is the Merivale River . The Warrego Highway crosses the river at Mitchell .

A number of Australian folk songs, such as Sandy Maranoa and The Maranoa Drovers , sing about the river.
