Map with all coordinates: The Diamantina Developmental Road is a partly paved road through the outback in south-west Queensland , Australia . It leads 1349 km from Mount Isa to Charleville (Queensland) .
The road is being modernized in stages, most recently in 2008 six million Australian dollars were made available for widening and paving .
course
The road initially runs south from Mount Isa. After about 300 km, just before Boulia, the Donohue Highway branches off in a westerly direction. After another 200 km to the south you come to Bedourie . A little later at the junction of Eyre Developmental Road to Birdsville , Diamantina Developmental Road changes direction and now runs east for the rest of the route. In the further course it is possible on three different roads to reach the Diamantina National Park in the north . After 450 km on mostly unpaved slopes you come to Windorah . From here it is possible to get into Welford National Park . The road then continues via Quilpie and after another 450 km at Charleville (Queensland) meets the Mitchell Highway .
The highest point on the highway is at 426 m, the lowest at 73 m.
