Goondiwindi is located about 350 kilometers southwest of the capital Brisbane on the Macintyre River on the border with New South Wales . Goondiwindi has about 5,500 inhabitants and is the seat of the local administrative area of the same name (LGA) Goondiwindi Regional Council . Goondiwindi was founded in 1888. At the time, the city was one of the few border crossings between the colonies of Queensland and New South Wales. The city lost this function with the establishment of the Australian Federation in 1901. From this time the old customs post, which today houses a museum, has been preserved in the city.
Since 1989, the "Hell of the West Triathlon" has been held here every year in February, a triathlon over the middle distance (2 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 20 km running).
