Coordinates: 28 ° 32 ′  S , 150 ° 18 ′  E The Goondiwindi Region is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 19,258 km² and has about 10,300 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in the southeast of the state on the border with New South Wales about 290 km southwest of the capital Brisbane .

The largest city and the administrative seat of the LGA is Goondiwindi with around 5500 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and towns: Beebo, Billa Billa, Bonshaw, Boondandilla, Brush Creek, Bungunya, Bybera, Calingunee, Callandoon, Canning Creek, Cement Mills, Coolmunda, Daymar, Glenarbon, Goodar, Goondiwindi, Gore, Greenup, Inglewood, Kindon, Kioma, Kurumbul, Limevale, Lundavra, Maidenhead, Moonie, Mosquito Creek, Mungindi, North Bungunya, North Talwood, Oman Ama, Riverton, Silver Spur, Smithlea, South Talwood, Tarawera, Terrica, Texas , Toobeah, Warroo, Watsons Crossing , Weengallon, Whetstone, Wondalli, Wyaga, Yagaburne and Yelarbon.

history

Today's Goondiwindi Region emerged in 2008 from the Town of Goondiwindi and the two Shires Waggamba and Inglewood.

administration

The Goondiwindi Regional Council has seven members. The mayor (mayor) and six other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
