history
In the area of today's Texas lived Aboriginesstamm the Bigambul for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in the 1840s.
The name of the city is generally believed to go back to land disputes. The land was first settled by the McDougall brothers , who suddenly found their land occupied when they returned from the gold fields. When their claim to the land was finally recognized, they named their reason after the much better known dispute between the United States and Mexico over Texas territory .
In November 1930, the Texas Railroad connected Texas to Inglewood , 35 miles north on the Southwest Railroad . In 1994 this railway line was closed.
Tobacco growing was a major industry in the area until around 1980. Many families of Italian descent were involved in tobacco planting.
