The Drosselstraße in Hamburg - Barmbek-Nord is an approximately 660 meter long, continuous four-lane road that is part of the main road network of Hamburg and has the official road code D204.

It begins on Bramfelder Strasse at a height of 12.8 meters ( Lage ), runs northwest to the intersection with Steilshooper Strasse, where it reaches its highest point at 14.2 meters and takes a westerly direction in an elongated curve. After crossing Fuhlsbüttler Straße , it descends to Hufnerstraße to 8.6 meters, where it changes into Rübenkamp ( location ).

The Drosselstrasse has had its name since 1899 and, like the many other streets in Barmbek-Nord that are named after birds, reminds of the garden of the bird lover Gerhard Hinrich von Essen (1770–1833), which used to be in this area. It originally began on Steilshooper Strasse and was only extended to Bramfelder Strasse in the post-war period.

Infrastructure and local transport

The Drosselstrasse is dominated by post-war buildings. House number 15 is originally a garage built in 1971, which as a multi-purpose facility (MZA) included a bunker system for around 2000 people, whereby two tube bunkers from the Second World War were integrated. After completion of the civil protection program, a residential building was erected above the garage. The New Apostolic Church Barmbek from 1951/52 is located at the junction of Schwalbenstrasse .

In particular for the north side of Drosselstrasse, which has so far been underused, there have been various new building plans since 2016 that are to be implemented in the coming years.

There is retail trade especially at the intersection with Fuhlsbüttler Straße, but also at the beginning. There is also some gastronomy to be found.

Due to the nearby Barmbek station of the Hamburg U- and S-Bahn and the local bus station, the Metrobus line 23, the city bus lines 166 and 173 as well as the night bus line 600 run on Drosselstraße, but there is no bus stop directly in the street.
