Railway stations in the Hamburg area |
The Hamburg-Barmbek station is a hub in the Hamburg rapid transit network. It is also the separation station between the ring line of the Hamburg subway and the Walddörferbahn . It is served by the S1 and S11 lines of the Hamburg S-Bahn and the U3 line of the Hamburger Hochbahn . In 2017, an average of 61,700 passengers got on or off the subway section daily (Mon-Fri). The Barmbek stop is thus one of the five most popular stations on the Hamburg subway network. In 2018, an average of 29,200 passengers boarding or disembarking used the S-Bahn station daily (Mon-Fri). With these values, each entry or exit is counted separately, so a transfer between two lines counts as "two passengers".
construction
The station is located in the Hamburg district of Barmbek-Nord on an embankment and has a total of three platforms. The northernmost one is used by the S-Bahn with lines S1 and S11. The two southern platforms serve the traffic of the underground line U3 on the ring line towards Kellinghusenstraße or Berliner Tor and the junction to Wandsbek-Gartenstadt. Until the summer of 2009, two underground lines served Barmbek station. The U2 served the station, coming from Wandsbek-Gartenstadt , in the direction of Berliner Tor, while the U3 trains from the direction of Kellinghusenstrasse ended in Barmbek.
On the northern edge, the track of the freight bypass running parallel to the S-Bahn line runs past the station. The Barmbek freight station located next to it was north of the passenger station and has now been closed and built over. To the north-west of the station there is a sweeping system for the S-Bahn and a workshop for the U-Bahn.
history
The Barmbeker Bahnhof has existed since 1906 as part of the former Stadtbahn . From 1912 the underground also stopped at two platforms with four tracks, which were built right next to the suburban train station. With the construction of the subway branch line in the forest villages , another platform with two tracks was added. The station building on Wiesendamm had to be demolished as early as 1916. Between 1926 and 1928 the track systems of the subway were completely renewed, from then on there were only two subway platforms with four tracks.
At the beginning of the 1960s, an entrance was created on the north side of the station and a large bus transfer facility was built. She was u. a. needed to replace tram lines 6 and 9 in the direction of Ohlsdorf and Bramfeld with a broken connection between rapid transit and bus. Tram traffic ceased on May 29, 1965. This system has now been replaced by bus stops around the station. To this end, the western entrance from Wiesendamm was renewed.
The station was completely renovated and rebuilt between October 2009 and the end of 2016. The Senate is providing a total of EUR 28.4 million for the redesign of the station and its immediate surroundings.
Express and subway lines
