The Dehnhaide underground station is a stop on the Hamburg underground line U3 in the Barmbek-Süd district .
Structure and location
Dehnhaide is a high station. The eponymous street is crossed immediately north of the two 120 meter long side platforms. There are also entrances to the underground station, the platforms can be reached directly via stairs, and elevators enable barrier-free access. Further stairs are located at the south end of the platforms. Except for about 20 meters at the south end, the entire facility is completely covered.
history
Dehnhaide was built as part of the first Hamburg underground line, the so-called ring line , between 1908 and 1910. In March 1912, passenger traffic could also be started on this section of the route. At the end of the 1920s, the platforms were extended from their original 60 meters to 90 meters.
The previously densely populated area was almost completely destroyed by English bombing raids ( Operation Gomorrah ) in July 1943. The underground station itself was so badly damaged that traffic had to be stopped. Only five years after the end of the war, in July 1950, was operations resumed.
In the early 1990s, the station was completely rebuilt. Since then, the two platforms have been almost completely covered.
