The Baumwall - since December 2, 2016 with the suffix "(Elbphilharmonie)" - is a station of the Hamburg subway - U3 . It is located on Baumall , Hamburg-Neustadt district , and as part of the viaduct route at the Hamburg harbor is a cultural monument of the city of Hamburg.
history
The construction of the underground station began in 1911. It was completed in 1912. The elevated railway station was renovated and rebuilt by October 2010 as a future stop for the Elbphilharmonie for 4.5 million euros based on a design by Michael Blunck and Henning Rose. WTM Engineers GmbH took over the structural planning. For this reason, the U3 only used a shuttle service to St. Pauli from May 10th to October 3rd, 2010. In addition, a viaduct on the elevated railway line at Hamburg's inland port had to be renewed.
Location and expansion
The station with side platforms is in the immediate vicinity of the Speicherstadt and the Elbphilharmonie . It is used by many tourists as a gateway to it. The way to the Miniatur Wunderland also begins here and is signposted from the bus stop. The stop is barrier-free with two glass elevators on the sides. There is also a direct transition to the building complex of the publishing house Gruner + Jahr with a pedestrian bridge over the street Baumall at the western exit of the station. This was added in 1990 when the new publishing house was built.
