The Hamburger Straße U-Bahn ( underground) station is a high station of the Hamburg U-Bahn in the Barmbek-Süd district . Today it is served by the U3 line. The stop abbreviation for the Hamburger Hochbahn is HS .
history
The underground station was opened in March 1912 as part of the ring line (today: U3) and has two side platforms. Until May 1970 it was named Wagnerstrasse after the street of the same name crossing here. During the Second World War , large parts of the underground system in this area, as well as large parts of the surrounding area, were largely destroyed ( Operation Gomorrah ). The train service could not be resumed until July 1, 1950.
In 1970, the large Hamburger Strasse shopping center was opened northwest of the Wagnerstrasse stop , so the station was renamed Hamburger Strasse. The stop was extensively renovated in 1972 and 2001, most recently with the installation of an elevator for each platform with a partial platform elevation.

Between 1967 and 2009, the eastern part of the ring route between Berliner Tor and Barmbek , where the Hamburger Straße stop is also located, was served by the U2 line. After extensive construction work in the Berliner Tor branching station, the route was changed in July 2009, and the U3 line has been running on this section since then.
The Hamburger Straße station has two 120 m long side platforms. Both can be reached by lifts (outside the station hall) and are therefore barrier-free.
