Access building of the station built in 1953

The Borgweg underground station is a stop on the Hamburg underground line U3 in the Winterhude district . The operating abbreviation of the station is BO. In 2017 it was used by around 14,200 passengers daily (Mon-Fri).

construction

The stop is in the cut directly south of the Hamburg city park . The facility has a 90 meter long central platform, the east side of which is the only access point. Stairs and an elevator lead to the access building.

The station was originally opened in 1912 as part of the ring line (today U3). The access building erected at that time did not survive the Second World War, so a new building had to be built in 1953. This was completely renovated in 1994 as part of a renovation of the entire facility. During the renovation, the station also received a new, transparent platform roof and was made barrier-free, with the needs of the visually impaired being taken into account when designing the surfaces. There are several facilities for the visually impaired in the area.

An underground line Sengelmannstraße - Uhlenhorst - Altona - Lurup planned in the 1960s and 1970s was to cross the U3 at the Borgweg station. For this purpose, an additional platform in the tunnel below the existing system, approximately at a 90-degree angle to the U3, was planned. The line was never implemented, but is still included in the Hamburg zoning plan.

Planning for a line U5

The most recently published plans for the U5 also provide for another subway line on Borgweg, which is to lead from City Nord via Winterhude Süd and Uhlenhorst to the city center. According to the feasibility study published in February 2019, there are two location options for the U5 platform. The solution preferred by the Hochbahn is to the west of the U3 stop, largely under Barmbeker Straße. The U3 platform would be extended to the west and a connection to the lower-lying U5 station would be provided at the new west end. Another possible variant is the U5 platform under Borgweg, east of today's U3 system.

Connection

At the station Borgweg there is a transition to various bus lines, including the Metrobus -line 6 on the Uhlenhorst in Hamburg city driving.
