The Sierichstraße subway station is a stop on the Hamburg subway line U3 in the Winterhude district . The station code is SI.

construction

The stop is between the eponymous Sierichstrasse and Dorotheenstrasse in the Hamburg district of Winterhude. Both streets are crossed by the underground line here in an elevated position. Accordingly, the approximately 90-meter-long central platform of the stop is also located on the embankment. The only exit is at the west end and leads into a small vestibule on Sierichstrasse. The buses stopping in Dorotheenstrasse can therefore only be reached via a small detour through Greflingerstrasse, which is adjacent to the south. The platform is paved with cobblestone and tapers sharply towards the east end.

history

Sierichstraße underground station 1912, design: Raabe & Wöhlecke

The Sierichstraße underground station is one of the oldest stations on the Hamburg underground, it was built according to plans by Raabe & Wöhlecke and opened on May 10, 1912. In 1925/26, the platform was extended to its present size so that 6-car trains can now also stop here.

The stairwell was badly damaged in the late phase of the Second World War, and it was not until October 1945 that trains could stop here again after the end of the war. In 1954 the remainder of the stairwell was replaced by a simple new building.

Overall, the stop is still in its very original, but well-kept condition. These include the cobblestones as the flooring on the platform, the still existing shelter for the stop guards who were once deployed, the wooden benches or the stop signs, which are the only ones on the Hamburg subway that are written in white on a black background. This type of signage was still common on many older stations until the 1980s.

In the summer of 2012 there was a long line closure. The occasion was the renewal of the route between Kellinghusenstrasse and Barmbek. In the Sierichstrasse area, the bridges over Sierichstrasse were replaced by new buildings and the Dorotheenstrasse bridge was overhauled. At the same time, the Sierichstrasse underground station was renovated based on drawings from 1912. The entrance hall and the stairwell received new tiles with newly designed ornaments.

additional

By the beginning of the 2020s, all Hamburg subway stations should be barrier-free. For the Sierichstrasse station, Hochbahn is considering building a second access to Dorotheenstrasse in this context.

The station is part of the listed ensemble "U-Bahnhof Sierichstrasse 130 and the route of the U 3 including road bridges over Sierichstrasse, Dorotheenstrasse and Maria-Louisen-Strasse".
