The subway station Lübecker Straße is a junction of the Hamburg subway , where the U1 and U3 stop, which is located in the Hohenfelde district. The station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "LU". Every day (Mon – Fri, 2017) around 31,100 people getting on and off use the stop.

construction

The stop is a junction between lines U1 and U3 . The two lines each have their own station section: The two side platforms of the U3 are in the first low level (tracks 1 and 2). The only access for passengers is at the north end of the Lübecker Straße. To the west of this is the central platform of the U1 (with tracks 3 and 4) in the second lowland at an angle of almost 70 degrees to the U3 route. Both platforms are connected by a corridor on the −1 level. From the U3 platform in the direction of Barmbek to the U1 platform, the route therefore initially leads through the access building above the northern end of the U3 platform, via which the east side of the U1 platform is also reached.

The platform of the U1 has an additional distribution floor at its western end, which leads to the exits at the intersection of Lübecker Straße / Mühlendamm / Steinhauerdamm.

All platforms are at least 120 meters long and therefore suitable for operation with 8 or 9-car trains.

The Lübecker Straße station is about 800 meters from the neighboring Wartenau (U1) and Berliner Tor (U3) stops, the U3 Uhlandstraße stop in the north is just under 600 meters and the Lohmühlenstraße (U1) stop to the west is about 650 meters away Meter.

The station building, which became necessary due to the new construction of the U1, was built according to designs by Horst Sandtmann and Friedhelm Grundmann between 1958 and 1960 . It has a pentagonal floor plan with a flat concrete shell arching above it . Stefan Polónyi's shell construction is only supported by the pillars at the corners. A small canopy with four concrete reliefs based on a design by Hans Kock was included towards Lübecker Strasse . The other access routes to the U1 were also designed by Sandtmann.

Transition to other modes of transport

At the Lübecker Straße underground station there is a transition to the 608 night bus. Next to the station building is a StadtRAD Hamburg station .

history

Entrance building 1912, design: Raabe & Wöhlecke
View of the platforms that were still open at the time

The stop on Lübecker Straße was opened in March 1912 as part of the first Hamburg underground line, the ring line (now the U3). The design came from Raabe & Wöhlecke ; Back then, parts of the line at the stop were still open in a cut. After the Second World War, the side platforms and the route were completely “roofed over” and have been in the tunnel ever since.

From 1959 the tunnel of today's U1 was built here along Lübecker Straße from the main train station in the direction of Wandsbek . For this purpose, the tram lines running on Lübecker Straße were relocated to Angerstraße to the south. On July 2, 1961, subway operations could commence on the new route to Lübecker Strasse. As early as October 1, 1961, operations could be extended to the next station in Wartenau, where the trains could be swept in a sweeping system . The Lübecker Straße station (U1) only has a simple change of platform .

Until 2009, the Berliner Tor – Barmbek section of the ring line was used by the U2 line.

The U3 platforms have been barrier-free since spring 2019, and the U1 platform since December 19, 2019. For this purpose, elevators were installed and orientation aids for the visually impaired.
