The Meßberg underground station is a tunnel stop on the Hamburg underground line U1 in the southern Hamburg city center. It lies halfway under the UNESCO - World Heritage " Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel with Chile House ".
history
The Meßberg stop was put into operation on February 22, 1960 after five years of construction. With it, a new section of the Hamburg subway was completed for the first time after the Second World War . For about seven months the trains from the direction of Ochsenzoll ended in Meßberg, because it was not until October 1960 that the continuation of the route via Steinstrasse to the main station could be opened.
Originally, the station was supposed to accommodate four tracks: in addition to today's U1, a planned Elbrand line was to stop at the Meßberg south of the existing facilities . The stop was designed so that further expansion was possible.
construction
The station lies in a double plain. Messberg has a central platform with exits on both sides. They each lead into a vestibule, from which there are several exits to the surface.
The distance to the neighboring station Jungfernstieg is about 700 meters. The Steinstraße stop is about 500 meters away.
