The Wartenau is a tunnel stop the Hamburg subway - U1 on the boundary of districts Eilbek and high field . The station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "WA". The subway station has an average of around 15,000 people getting on and off every day (Mon-Fri, 2017).
construction
The Wartenau underground station is located under Wandsbeker Chaussee, roughly between the intersection with the eponymous Wartenau street and Conventstraße. The 120-meter-long central platform is located twice below the street. At both ends there are stairs that lead into lobbies in a simple lower position. From there, the surface can be reached via several stairways. The facility is barrier-free accessible via elevators.
To the east of the platform there is a sweeping track that is mainly used in the event of operational disruptions.
The two neighboring stations Lübecker Straße and Ritterstraße are each about 800 meters away.
history
Wartenau was built as part of the so-called Wandsbeker U-Bahn, which replaced the heavy tram traffic on Wandsbeker Chaussee. This created space on the surface for the six-lane expansion of federal highway 75 . The opening took place in October 1961. Initially, the journeys from the city center ended at the Wartenau station. It was only about a year later that traffic could continue to Wandsbek Markt . In the winter of 2007/08, the platform area was extensively redesigned, and since then it has been characterized by different shades of red-orange on the walls.
Traffic control
The U1 line is served every 5 minutes during the day, and there are additional trips during rush hour . In the evenings and on Sundays there is a 10-minute cycle. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the underground runs continuously every 20 minutes.
On the nights when continuous night-time operation is not carried out, the night bus routes 606 and 608 offer replacement between downtown Hamburg and Langenhorn or Rahlstedt.
Metrobus line 25 (in the direction of Hammerbrook or via Winterhude to the Altona station ) as well as the express bus lines 35 (in the direction of Rahlstedt or Hamburg-Messe ) and 36 (in the direction of Farmsen-Berne or Blankenese ) also stop at the Wartenau stop . . There is a StadtRAD Hamburg station next to the entrances on the southwest side of the stop .
