The Metro Station Ochsenzolle is a station of the Hamburg subway the U1 line in the quarter Ochsenzolle in langenhorn . The station was the terminus of the U1 line until 1969, before it was extended to Garstedt . It has around 12,900 passengers a day (Mon-Fri, 2017).

history

The station was built as the northern terminus of the Langenhorn Railway and temporarily put into operation with that on January 5, 1918 and initially served by steam trains. Electrical operation began on July 1, 1921. The railway freight station, which was previously located directly north of the underground station , has not been used as such since the 1990s and was dismantled in the mid-2000s. From 1953 to 1967 the Alsternordbahn (ANB) ended on the opposite western side of Langenhorner Chaussee . The suburban railway, which came from Ulzburg via Friedrichsgabe and Garstedt and was operated by rail buses , was replaced here at the end of May 1969 by the U1 underground line, which had been extended to the new underground Garstedt station. In 1996 the U-Bahn was extended to Norderstedt Mitte .

The U1 trains ended up during the continuous night traffic on the weekend nights in Hamburg until December 2008 at Ochsenzoll, the northernmost station on this U1 branch within the Hamburg city limits. Since then, all night trains have continued to run every 20 minutes to the terminus in Norderstedt Mitte. In Ochsenzoll, trains are switched on and off in the morning and evening hours.

The station has been barrier-free since November 2015.

Structure and location

The station was built using the open construction method and is located in a simple lower position. The original access structure, which existed until the major renovation of the station in the mid-1960s, was similar to that of Fuhlsbüttel or Langenhorn Markt (then Langenhorn Mitte) before they were redesigned. In 1965, the new, slightly lower station at the old square was put into operation. This was necessary so that the later extension to Garstedt could be possible. The tracks had to be run under the Langenhorner Chaussee crossing. The new access structure in the style customary at the time (such as the Hagenbecks Tierpark train station or the converted Schlump train station) was also given a possibility for pedestrians to cross between the two tracks and two entrances east and west of the Chaussee, with the latter even with an additional escalator .

West of Langenhorner Chaussee was the bus station , which was then heavily frequented (with many VHH bus lines (including to Pinneberg via Garstedt and Schnelsen or via Quickborn, to Kisdorf via Harksheide, Henstedt and Ulzburg, and to Wakendorf II via Glashütte and Tangstedt) Post bus line to Bad Segeberg , the autokraft line to Bad Oldesloe and the HHA express bus line 31) and the terminus of the ANB.

South of the former ANB station in Ochsenzoll, the western underground station has been located since 1965, with three tracks between the two main tracks. At the eastern end of the Ochsenzoll underground station is an extensive track harp that is used as a large parking facility. In addition to the northern main line, there was another third track at the level of the platform until the 2000s, which used to be used as a pull-out track for shunting construction trains and their locomotives. Until the 1960s, these tracks were provided with an overhead line (island operation). The elevated railway had a track and material warehouse at the east end of the freight station, which is now in Ohlsdorf after the site has been abandoned .

In Ochsenzoll there is also a line center of the Hamburger Hochbahn. It is responsible for operations on the U1 line between Norderstedt Mitte and Stephansplatz . Several interlockings are remotely controlled from the line control center, an electronic interlocking below is located directly at the Ochsenzoll station.

The station abbreviation for the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "OZ".
