About this picture

Wakendorf II is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Name of the parish

The name Wakendorf II was introduced in Prussian times to distinguish the place from another community called Wakendorf 20 kilometers away . This was a purely local political decision without any historical significance.

A citizens' initiative tried to get the name of the place Wakendorf an der Alster through a signature campaign . This request was judged to be inadmissible by the local authority of the Segeberg district because the formal criteria were not met.

On June 22, 2006, the municipal council decided to keep the name Wakendorf II .

Geography and traffic

Wakendorf II lies between Henstedt-Ulzburg and Nahe . In addition to connections to these places, there are also roads to Tangstedt / Wilstedt and Kisdorferwohld . Wakendorf II is located 20 kilometers southwest of the partner municipality Wakendorf I .

Until 1973, the village had a railway depot and a station on the narrow-gauge railway -distance Elmshorn - Ulzburg - Bad Oldesloe ( EBO ). In the 1960s there was a direct bus connection from Wakendorf II via Tangstedt and Glashütte to the Ochsenzoll underground station in the north of Hamburg. Today the only public transport connection is the VHH - regional bus route 7141 between Henstedt-Ulzburg and Bad Oldesloe via Nahe and Itzstedt.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Over a green shield base, in it a silver wave bar. In silver three 2: 1 green leaves of the marsh marigold, each covered with a golden flower. "

IT infrastructure

Wakendorf II has a multimedia fiber optic network. The basis is formed by fiber optic cables up to the houses (FTTH) via the Internet, television and telephone. The internet speed was originally 50 Mbit and was increased to 100 Mbit in 2014 (up / down synchronous). Today, significantly higher bandwidths are also possible. The fiber optic network is connected directly to the German backbone network in parallel to existing structures (e.g. Telekom) . This means that there are no availability or performance dependencies here.

This construction was made possible by a collaboration between the municipality of Wakendorf II and the company Sacoin GmbH , which together form Wakendorf II - our local network GmbH . The municipality has a 25.1% stake in this.
