When Gut Bramstedt , to which the place had belonged, was dissolved in 1874, Weddelbrook became an independent municipality

In 1962 the place first took part in the competition Our village should become more beautiful and immediately won first place in the district competition and second in the state competition. In 1997 Weddelbrook was again district winner and in 1998 won the bronze medal in the national competition.

"The old Weddelbrooker"

A granite boulder weighing around 102 t rests in the parking lot in front of the village house on Heidmoorer Straße. A Weddelbrook farmer discovered the giant stone in 1997 while working on his field. The rescue work with heavy equipment turned out to be extremely difficult. After several unsuccessful attempts, the boulder was finally lifted onto a heavy-duty truck, transported to the village house and christened "Der Alte Weddelbrooker".
