Geography and traffic

Gönnebek is located about 15 km east of Neumünster in a rural area with many lakes. The federal highway 21 runs to the east from Bad Segeberg to Kiel , to the north the federal highway 430 runs from Neumünster to Plön . The next train station is in Rickling .

coat of arms

Blazon : "Raised by blue and green divided by a wide, silver wavy band, consisting of half a wave valley, a wave crest and half a wave valley, including a golden bowl."

Economy and Infrastructure

The municipality is predominantly agricultural.

In the 1960s, a so-called gardeners' settlement was built on the border with neighboring Trappenkamp , which is clearly separated from the old Gönnebeker town center. The companies have specialized in the production of potted plants and used the good transport links via the federal highways 205 and 404 . The structural change can now also be felt here. The Schleswig-Holstein Magazin reported in a series of reports on the village history that seven of the 21 horticultural businesses had already had to file for bankruptcy. In addition, individual producers have switched their sales to direct marketing to private and commercial customers. The Hamburg company BAUM Consult produces electricity for around 3,280 households with two biogas plants and a wood chip boiler. The waste heat is used by eleven horticultural companies that have joined forces in a heating plant cooperative. The plant has been fully operational since January 2011. The gardeners hope to save up to 50 percent on energy costs. The combined heat and power plants are supplied by a biogas plant in neighboring Rendswühren.

Gönnebek is known far beyond the region through Landgard e. G. , which markets the ornamental plants produced here internationally.
