About this picture

Schmalfeld is a municipality in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

history

North of the Schmalfelder Au , the first traces of people who lived around 10,000 years ago in the area of today's Schmalfeld were found.

During the construction of the Naheland settlement, urn fields from the Roman Empire were discovered around 300 AD. From 700 AD, a Saxon tribe spread north of the Elbe to cultivate land from dense jungle . Everyone received an equally good, equally large arable land, which at the time of the Carolingians (around 800 AD) was often divided into narrow arable beds. Hence the place should have its name.
